First Robotics Competition (FRC) is a FIRST program for grades 9-12. It combines the excitement of a sport with the challenges of science and technology. Teams have limited resources and limited time as they build a robot to compete in that years challenge. The build season begins the first Saturday in January and ends about six and a half weeks later.
The FIRST program was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen to inspire students of all ages. There are multiple challenges for different age groups for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Each level encourages students to discover the fields of science and technology. People who participate in the program also gain skills in the areas of organization, leadership, and teamwork.
